Wu Jian’an: Of the infinite mind

The Tao of Heaven is impermanent, and everything in the universe has both mysteri-ous omens and unexpectedness.

Everything in the universe happens by accident, but also with certainty. Omens are open and divergent, and allow people to keep imagining. Wu Wang, on the other hand, refers to unexpectedness. It is mysterious and convergent, and catches people unprepared. This corresponds to the ancient Chinese philosophy. The relationship between the two is both antagonistic and inclusive, just like the mysterious Tai Chi diagram. Under certain circumstances, the two can transform into each other. They are the force behind the laws of nature to push the development, changes and death of everything, and also the most basic element and function in the universe, i.e. the combination of Yin and Yang.

Starting from the logic behind Wu Jian'an's creation and exhibition, the exhibition Omens at Minsheng Art Museum Beijing two years ago might just be the omen that foretold Wu Wang, or Of the Infinite Mind. Omens and Of the Infinite Mind are like two sides of a coin, one inadvertently disclosing the designs of the Gods, while the other arrives unexpectedly without any reason. Ancient myths, legends, prophecies, figures can all be interpreted in two or more ways in the descriptive system created by Wu Jian’an in the form of contemporary art.

Wu Jian'an superimposes and sublimates the knowledge and visual image that he accumulates and sorts out from the rational world. What he demonstrates is a kind of creation in a "super-spontaneous" state. Perhaps this is the spiritual path that the artist subconsciously opened up to the ancient world. It is mysterious and ceremonial, and can be transmitted to the multi-dimensional space by spiritual power. When this sense of ritual intrusively connects the ancient, present and future parallel worlds, the souls of different time and space become connected in a way. Although this intrusion catches one unprepared and is uncontrollable, it is like a call from the mysterious world that attracts us to follow Wu Jian'an and experience an artistic discovery and spiritual journey similar to Tao.
